Zahnow First Grade Teachers Use Technology to Motivate Their Students!
|
What did they do?During remote learning, the First Grade Team wanted to do something to get the students excited about learning. Jamie Holtman, who had previously done some online Breakout EDUs, came up with an idea to incorporate a "secret code word" (letter word lock) for each week. Using Google Forms, students entered the "secret code word" which took them to a link to view a fun video of the First Grade Teachers doing something fun and silly (with the help of Mrs. Bivens). This was a great idea that really motivated their students! After viewing their responses each week, they found out that up to 75% of the first graders logged in and watched the videos!

How did they do this?
The chosen "secret word code" related to the theme of the week, the character word of the month, etc. Each day, a teacher showed a letter(s) somewhere in their video on their designated day so that the letters were all in the correct order. Students were given a form each week to write their letter(s) on, and at the end of the week, they entered all of the letters in order into a Google Form. If students entered the correct letters in order and clicked "submit", they would be able to click on the link to the "bonus video" for the week.
